These full day voyages including lunch and morning tea are a great opportunity to experience sailing on a tallship from the Hobart marina to the lower reaches of the Derwent River.
Often for these sails there are light winds in the morning with a sea breeze to give us a good sail home.
While exactly where we will sail will depend on the winds of the day, highlights and some of the things you could see or do include:
- Steer the ship
- Help with handling the sails
- Climb the masts - or out onto the bowsprit
- Anchor in beautiful bays
- See the historic Iron Pot Lighthouse and WW2 military infrastructure
- Wildlife - We often see Penguins, Dolphins, Sea Eagles and lots of other birds
- Lunch, morning tea, Tea and Coffee provided
- Cost $95
While no one trip will be the same this would be a typical day:
- 0845 Depart Hobart and get settled in
- Up to around noon voyage down the Derwent. During this period our crew will point out landmarks and give stories about Hobart and the original Lady Nelson
- You may want to climb the masts (good view) or even go out onto the net under the bowsprit (Large wooden thing poking out the front of the ship) some spend housr out there and it is escpecially good if dolphins come along.
- Lunch: this may be whilst sailing or we may find a nice bay to anchor in for a while.
- Post Lunch, usually the sea breeze will "kick in" and this gives us a perfect wind to set sails and return to Hobart
- Finish - Usually between 1500 and 1600
